Transforming NIS AG into a High-Performance SaaS Provider
Moving from legacy on-premise solutions to a Well-Architected, FTR-certified AWS cloud platform.
NIS AG is a leading Swiss provider of network information systems, serving major energy suppliers like BKW and EKZ to ensure the stability of the national infrastructure. To meet modern demands for agility and security, NIS AG partnered with copebit to undergo a fundamental transformation from a classic software supplier to a modern SaaS operator. Leveraging the AWS Migration Acceleration Program (MAP), the project focused on shortening release cycles and enabling flexible, scalable subscriptions through a cloud-native mindset.

The technical implementation follows strict AWS Well-Architected principles. The solution features a multi-tenant Landing Zone secured by AWS Shield and GuardDuty, with workloads orchestrated via a highly scalable Amazon EKS (Kubernetes) cluster and automated via FluxCD. To provide performant and secure access to complex geodata, Amazon AppStream 2.0 was integrated for desktop virtualization.
A standout achievement is that the entire software stack is now available as Infrastructure as Code (IaC), allowing for fully auditable, reproducible deployments. This automation has enabled the NIS team to shift their focus from manual maintenance to rapid feature development. The platform is AWS Foundational Technical Readiness (FTR) Certified, ensuring it meets the highest Swiss standards for data protection and compliance in the critical energy sector.
"With Infrastructure as Code and end-to-end CI/CD automation, we have laid the foundation so that Day-2 operations at NIS AG no longer depend on manual processes. Instead, the platform runs stably, reproducibly, and scalably – and the team can fully concentrate on innovation and product development."

"The support from AWS and copebit was above & beyond. This commitment decisively helped us successfully drive our transformation forward."
