Global Logistics Excellence

Bertschi Group, a Swiss-based global leader in chemical logistics, sought to modernize the infrastructure supporting its three mission-critical applications: a customer Track & Trace portal, a mobile heating data monitoring service, and a digitalized workshop software. Facing increased operational complexity and a need for enhanced scalability and security, Bertschi partnered with copebit to migrate these services from a previous cloud environment to a Well-Architected AWS platform.

The project began with a comprehensive review of existing structures, leading to a complete rebuild using Terraform (Infrastructure as Code). This approach ensured that the infrastructure remains flexible, documented, and capable of responding automatically to changing requirements. The core workload is hosted on Amazon EKS (Managed Kubernetes), utilizing RDS MariaDB and AWS Elastic Filesystem for data storage. A central Networking Hub with IPSec VPN was established to provide seamless hybrid integration into the global Bertschi network.

A cornerstone of the project was the implementation of a rigorous Disaster Recovery (DR) strategy. To guarantee business continuity against cyber incidents or regional outages, copebit implemented cross-account and cross-region backups via AWS Backup. This ensures an RPO of 24 hours and an RTO of 8 hours, allowing even a completely compromised account to be restored within the required window. Since the migration, the customer portal has seen a 296% increase in hits, a growth surge handled effortlessly by the new scalable foundation.
